George Szell, 1960 – Dvořák, Symphony No. 7 in D minor, Op. 70 (by jacquesurlus)

One of the touchstone pieces of my life. I still remember discovering it for the first time whilst playing it in an orchestra simultaneously – one of the gifts of my life. And with its key of d minor – relegated for the truly and profoundly serious of themes in music.

One of my top 5 symphonies along with Rachmaninoff’s 2nd, Brahms’ 3rd, Tchaikovsky’s 6th and any Beethoven symphony.
